Digital Archive Structures with AI in the Federal Chancellery
As part of a digitalization initiative, bluDELTA supports the Federal Chancellery in structuring historical document archives and making content semantically searchable.
Initial Situation
Historical archives contain large volumes of unstructured documents, meeting records and continuous text. Although many of these documents already exist in digital form, they are often difficult to search, connect and analyze efficiently.
The goal of the project was to structure existing archive documents and create the foundation for more efficient research and improved contextual linking across the document base.
Digital archives create real value, when information becomes structured and searchable.
Challenge
Historical documents vary significantly in structure, content and format. Continuous text, meeting protocols and archived records contain large amounts of unstructured information that remain difficult to use without additional processing.
At the same time, content needed to be categorized, relevant relationships identified and documents enriched with additional metadata to enable efficient research and contextual linking.
Beyond the processing itself, transparency and structured data preparation played a central role.
Solution and Result
bluDELTA supports the structured analysis and preparation of historical archive documents. Content is processed automatically, categorized and enriched with additional metadata.
This enables documents to be semantically connected based on people, topics and contextual relationships. In addition, the project established the foundation for structured full-text search across the document archive.
The project demonstrates how AI-supported document processing can also be applied beyond traditional invoice and document workflows to enable the structured use of large document repositories.
